Last year was different

I waited and waited
For love-drenched flowers
And when they didn’t come
I knew they were from you.

Serendipity

I don’t care for
What you give me
If you can’t give me time

I want slices
Of serendipity
To always be mine

Epic fail

It can’t be a good thing
When you’re talking about us
And I’m talking about your career
And we’re both under the impression
That we’re talking about the same thing

Breakfast

In your world
We would perhaps
Do breakfast

In my world
You would surely
Be breakfast

Pull the other one

Don’t tell me how you wake up
And want me next to you
When we both know
How I’ve bled for this love.

As luck would have it

As luck would have it,
We met again in a crowded room.

Your friend turned to us and said:
“Do you two know each other?”
This is what I wanted to say:

I know every inch of the man behind that face.
I know how his lips shape around a kiss.
I know what it is to love and be loved by him.
I know what it’s like when he’s asleep.

I know those hands, his scent, his breathing.
We’ve kept each other safe when we’re reeling.

I know what it feels like to bite him.
When he cries I know how he shakes.
He’s held my heart to keep it from breaking
And I can still see the thoughts in his head.

As luck would have it,
We met again in a crowded room.

Ties that bind

Wandering through
Barefoot today
Running friendship bands
Through my fingers
I remembered deeper ties
– Unrelenting, unfrayed
Heart knots –
That still bind me
To you.

Disappearances

I want your heart –
All 300 odd grams of it –
Where your lips are

So I can sink my teeth into
That resilient muscle
Until I am sated

Until I can learn to accept
Disappearances – the hallmark
Of being with you.
